Swap and exit

The part most subscriptions leave vague

Four ways out, all priced. Return standards written as measurements rather than opinions. A charge cap so a return cannot become an open-ended bill.

  • Swap fee, Flex$149
  • Swap fee, Standard$99
  • Swap fee, PremiumIncluded
  • Wear charge cap$1,500

Exit ladder

Swap and exit

Every way out, priced

The part of a subscription that usually stays vague. Choose the plan and the month you are in and the four exits are costed, using a Mazda CX-5 on the ten thousand mile band as the worked example.

Your plan
  1. 01

    Swap to a different car

Allowance: 2 swaps per year. Swap fee $99. Your payment changes to the new car's rate.

    $99
  2. 02

    Hand it back and stop

Month 4 of a 6 month minimum. 3 remaining months charged at 50%.

    3 × $726.41 × 0.5 = $1,090

    $1,090
  3. 03

    Transfer it to someone else

Available from month three. The incoming member passes the same licence and credit checks and the car is inspected at handover. Usually the cheapest exit from a commitment.

    $350
  4. 04

    Keep going

After month 6 the agreement runs month to month with 30 days notice. Nothing renews automatically for a fixed term.

    $0

Late return without notice is $75 a day. Excess wear is charged against the published return standards and capped at $1,500. Sample figures.

Swapping

What happens when you change car

A swap is a new agreement on the new car at that car's own rate. It is not a free upgrade, and we would rather say that plainly than have it discovered on an invoice.

Return standards

Wear and tear, in inches and 32nds

Disputes happen when "normal wear" is an opinion. These are the thresholds we measure against, and they are the same for every member, every car and every plan.

Acceptable at return without a charge. Sample standards for this demo.
What we checkAcceptable up toThe detail
Dents and dingsUp to 2 inches acrossPaint must not be broken and the panel must not be creased.
ScratchesUp to 4 inches longA fingernail must not catch, and the scratch must not reach primer.
Stone chipsUp to 4 per panelForward-facing surfaces get more latitude than doors and rear quarters.
Tyre tread4/32 inch minimumMatched brand on each axle, no sidewall damage or plugs in the shoulder.
WindscreenChips under a quarterOutside the driver's primary viewing area. Cracks of any length are chargeable.
Kerb rashUp to 1 inch of arc per wheelBent, buckled or cracked rims are chargeable in full.
InteriorNormal soiling expectedBurns, tears, permanent staining and pet damage to trim are chargeable.
Items returnedBoth keys and all toolsParcel shelf, jack, tool kit and charging cable where applicable.

Anything outside these is chargeable at cost, capped at $1,500 per return. We replace tyres at 4/32 inch rather than the legal 2/32 because that is where wet braking distance starts to lengthen sharply.

How a return runs

  1. 01
    Tell us two weeks out

Give notice in the app or on the phone. We book a return slot at the hub nearest you, or a collection if you are on Premium.

  2. 02
    Self-check with a quarter

Walk the car in daylight. Anything borderline, photograph it and send it in. We will tell you in advance whether it will be charged.

  3. 03
    Inspection on a lift

Every panel photographed, tread depth measured with a gauge, odometer recorded. Flagged items are shot twice, once wide and once with a rule in frame.

  4. 04
    Report within 48 hours

You get every photograph whether or not anything is charged. Charges are itemised against the thresholds above and capped.

Late return without notice is $75 a day. Transferring the subscription to another approved member is $350 and is available from month three.
